I'm not familiar with that one. Is it a novel? What's the basic premise?
I loved Neverwhere and Sandman.

it's a novel.
the premise is that when imigrants came to america from other countries, they brought their gods and folklore with them... which gained life on america's fertile shores. now, new gods (the gods of the internet, the sitcom, the shopping mall) are springing up, and it looks like there's going to be a throwdown.

I haven't read American Gods yet... I have a novel backlog that includes Kavalier and Clay... But it's good to finally hear some recommendations. I'm a big Gaiman fan, but I've only read his comics.
davidbowie.com did an exclusive chat with Gaiman about the book (and a bunch of other stuff). I reprinted the transcript here so non-bowienet members could see/post/respond:

most excellent!
thank you!
when you say you're glad to hear recomendations, do you mean just about THIS book, or about neil gaiman books, or all books in general?

I meant about American Gods, because I hadn't heard from anyone who'd read it yet.
I don't need recommendations for his comics...I love them!
Have you seen the Dead Boy Detectives comic yet? It's sooooo good! It features the two dead schoolboys from Season of Mists (?). Ed Brubaker writes it, but it's based on Gaiman characters, so...

I'm a huge Neil Gaiman fan but have not read American Gods yet. I'm still waiting for my signed first edition to arrive. There are some drawbacks to living on the bottom of the world
Oh and Kavalier and Clay is a fantastic book. Just finished it - incredible story.
